Neon provides professional heat pump maintenance in San Francisco to keep your system running efficiently and help prevent breakdowns. Our local team (CSLB #1156494) inspects and services your unit.
Our heat pump maintenance service includes coil inspections, electrical connection checks, filter replacement or cleaning as needed, thermostat tests, condensate drain inspections, airflow checks, and overall system performance tests. We also evaluate refrigerant-related issues and defrost operation when applicable.
For San Francisco’s coastal properties, we inspect outdoor equipment for signs of salt-air corrosion. Maintenance procedures vary by system type and manufacturer recommendations.
Some manufacturers require documented heat pump system maintenance to support warranty claims.
When filters get clogged or coils collect dirt, your system has to work harder. Seasonal tune-ups help prevent these issues, reduce unnecessary energy use, and keep your utility bills in check.
Over time, dirty coils, restricted airflow, and refrigerant problems can put extra strain on your system. This leads to faster component wear and higher operating costs. Bi-annual tune-ups help catch these issues before they get worse.
Our local team handles maintenance for ducted and ductless systems throughout San Francisco neighborhoods.
We walk you through what we find, keep a record of every visit, and only suggest repairs when they're actually needed.
We make it easy to book heat pump maintenance at a time that works for you.

The U.S. Department of Energy recommends professional maintenance at least once a year. Because the system provides both warming and cooling, spring and fall service may be beneficial with heavy year-round use.
San Francisco’s mild climate may mean more system use during colder months. Fall maintenance prepares your equipment for winter, while spring service gets it ready for hot days.
The right maintenance schedule depends on your system, how often you use it, and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Schedule a diagnostic visit if you notice any of these problems:
These issues may require heat pump repair rather than routine checkups.
If an older system keeps needing repairs, we can compare repair and heat pump replacement options before you decide.

Our experience with Freon HVAC has been exceptional for a full panel upgrade to 200 amps and installation of a new Mitsubishi mini-split system in an old house. We took quotes from 4 different top rated hvac providers in the San Jose area, before deciding to go with Freon. I appreciated the honesty and detailed analysis of our needs by Slava when he first showed up to do an estimate. He asked a ton of questions, checked the house for existing setup, wiring, possibilities, and discussed multiple possibilities including ducted, gas, hybrid, and heat pump only. Once we decided to go with a specific type of configuration, he gave us multiple options. Their pricing was competitive and while it took forever for PGE to get to the wiring/transformer upgrade, Freon's team worked with them patiently to meet our needs. Special thanks to Jessica for regular follow ups with PGE and us. Once PGE scheduled the wiring upgrade (after 3 months), Freon's team was prompt and did a very clean install including all internal wiring and drainage work. They ensured city inspection was scheduled promptly and addressed all city concerns for a quick approval. I have not dealt with a more professional and competent crew in this area in a very long time. Would love to do business with them again.![]()

I usually doubt perfect 5-star ratings, but Freon completely earned theirs. My AC/heater combo unit broke, and every other company told me I needed a total replacement, quoting me between $9k and $12k. Freon came out to inspect it, and later that day, they gave me a quote for just $3,000 to repair it. I signed the contract that night, and they were back to do the work just 5 days later on June 19th. The tech replaced the compressor to get it running, but didn't stop there. He thoroughly tested the system, caught a power issue, and replaced the compressor relay and expansion valve to ensure the unit wouldn't break down again. Outstanding service. I'm finally set for the summer and winter. They deserve every single star!![]()

Refrigerant charge adjustments and electrical testing should be left to qualified technicians. EPA Section 608 certification is required for work that may release refrigerants.
It can. Warranty terms depend on the manufacturer, the model, and whether the equipment was registered. Some warranties require proof of bi-annual professional tune-up. Keep your service records and review your manufacturer's warranty terms.
The 20-degree rule often refers to the temperature difference between return air and supply air during cooling. A difference of around 15–20°F is common for many ducted systems, but the expected range varies by equipment and operating conditions. It is not a universal requirement for all heat pumps.
