Not every cooling problem needs the same solution. The right choice depends on your unit’s age, condition, and what’s causing the issue.
AC repair in San Francisco often makes sense for a newer system with an isolated problem. Replacement may be worth considering when breakdowns become frequent, efficiency drops, or major components start failing.
For additions, converted spaces, or homes without ductwork, a ductless mini-split or new central AC setup may make the most sense. We size the system to the home’s actual cooling load.
Regular maintenance helps keep the system efficient and can catch developing issues early. A tune-up may include refrigerant, coil, electrical, and airflow checks, depending on the equipment.
A routine AC service visit focuses on the parts of the system that affect cooling, airflow, efficiency, and reliability.

Our experience with Freon HVAC has been exceptional for a full panel upgrade to 200 amps and installation of a new Mitsubishi mini-split system in an old house. We took quotes from 4 different top rated hvac providers in the San Jose area, before deciding to go with Freon. I appreciated the honesty and detailed analysis of our needs by Slava when he first showed up to do an estimate. He asked a ton of questions, checked the house for existing setup, wiring, possibilities, and discussed multiple possibilities including ducted, gas, hybrid, and heat pump only. Once we decided to go with a specific type of configuration, he gave us multiple options. Their pricing was competitive and while it took forever for PGE to get to the wiring/transformer upgrade, Freon's team worked with them patiently to meet our needs. Special thanks to Jessica for regular follow ups with PGE and us. Once PGE scheduled the wiring upgrade (after 3 months), Freon's team was prompt and did a very clean install including all internal wiring and drainage work. They ensured city inspection was scheduled promptly and addressed all city concerns for a quick approval. I have not dealt with a more professional and competent crew in this area in a very long time. Would love to do business with them again.![]()

I usually doubt perfect 5-star ratings, but Freon completely earned theirs. My AC/heater combo unit broke, and every other company told me I needed a total replacement, quoting me between $9k and $12k. Freon came out to inspect it, and later that day, they gave me a quote for just $3,000 to repair it. I signed the contract that night, and they were back to do the work just 5 days later on June 19th. The tech replaced the compressor to get it running, but didn't stop there. He thoroughly tested the system, caught a power issue, and replaced the compressor relay and expansion valve to ensure the unit wouldn't break down again. Outstanding service. I'm finally set for the summer and winter. They deserve every single star!![]()

For most homes, once a year is a solid rule of thumb. If your system is older or works overtime during hot weather, it may need a checkup more often.
Repair usually makes sense for a newer system with an isolated problem. You may want to consider AC replacement in San Francisco if your system is older, needs frequent repairs, has major component problems, or no longer cools efficiently.
The right size comes down to your home’s cooling load, not just the square footage. We look at insulation, ceiling height, windows, layout, and local conditions to figure out what setup makes the most sense.
Many central AC systems last around 15–20 years. How long yours lasts depends on installation quality, maintenance, usage, and operating conditions. Heat pumps and ductless systems can last about as long, but it varies.
Yes. We install, maintain, and service ductless mini-splits as part of our cooling services in San Francisco and nearby areas. They’re a practical option for homes without ductwork or spaces that need separate temperature control.
A new AC system can run anywhere from about $5,000 to $15,000+. The final price comes down to the system, your home, ductwork, electrical needs, and how involved the install is.
Mini-splits and heat pumps can vary a lot, so the best way to get a solid number is with an in-home estimate.
Most filters should be swapped out every 1–3 months. Check them more often if you’ve got pets, a dusty home, or the AC is working overtime. And when in doubt, go by the filter manufacturer’s recommendation.
