Neon HVAC Service provides residential air conditioning installation throughout San Francisco and nearby Bay Area communities. CSLB #1156494.
Neon Heating & Cooling has served Bay Area homeowners since 2023. We specialize in residential air conditioning services for homes, condos, and older properties. Our local team handles the installation from equipment selection through final setup. We’re a California-licensed HVAC contractor (CSLB #1156494), and refrigerant-related work is performed by EPA Section 608-certified technicians.
Before recommending a system, we look at the home itself. Our techs check layout, insulation, existing ductwork, electrical capacity, and cooling load. That helps us choose equipment that fits the property.
Plenty of San Francisco homes, especially the older Edwardian and Victorian ones, went up without central air conditioning. If fans or portable units aren’t enough, Neon provides residential air conditioning services based on your home’s layout and cooling needs.
Older equipment may use more energy while delivering less cooling. When an upgrade makes sense, we compare SEER2 ratings, system type, installation cost, and expected operating costs to recommend an energy-efficient AC installation in San Francisco that fits your home.
Room additions, converted garages, and home offices may sit outside the reach of the existing HVAC system. A ductless mini-split can add targeted cooling without extending traditional ductwork throughout the home.
A remodel or new construction project is the ideal time to plan your cooling system installation. Neon helps plan the right system, ductwork, and zones before the walls close.
Some homeowners call in without any breakdown at all. The house just never cooled evenly, and that usually comes down to duct design, airflow imbalances, or equipment that was sized wrong from the start. A new AC installation planned around the home's actual layout fixes the cause, not the symptom.
If your system needs frequent repairs, struggles to keep up, or has become less reliable with age, installing a new system may make more sense than continuing to fix the old one. We’ll help you compare the options before you decide.
We offer central AC installation, ductless mini-splits, and heat pumps in San Francisco homes, including older properties, condos, and homes with limited space or electrical capacity.
We explain which system options fit your home, what the installation includes, and what affects the final price.
Our team handles the installation from equipment selection through startup and final testing, with permit-related steps handled when required for the project.

Our team handles the HVAC installation in San Francisco, including equipment placement, refrigerant work, electrical connections, thermostat setup, and duct connections where applicable. Any work outside the standard scope is quoted separately.
We test temperatures, airflow, controls, and overall cooling performance. Before we leave, we show you how the new system works and review what was completed.
Repair usually makes sense when the system is still fairly new, the issue is isolated, and the unit has otherwise been reliable.
Replacement becomes worth considering when repairs are becoming frequent, major components are failing, efficiency has dropped, or the system has never cooled the home properly. Age matters too — once a system reaches roughly 12–15 years, it may be worth comparing the cost of another repair with a new installation.
Not sure which option makes more sense? Our residential air conditioning services can help you decide.

Our experience with Freon HVAC has been exceptional for a full panel upgrade to 200 amps and installation of a new Mitsubishi mini-split system in an old house. We took quotes from 4 different top rated hvac providers in the San Jose area, before deciding to go with Freon. I appreciated the honesty and detailed analysis of our needs by Slava when he first showed up to do an estimate. He asked a ton of questions, checked the house for existing setup, wiring, possibilities, and discussed multiple possibilities including ducted, gas, hybrid, and heat pump only. Once we decided to go with a specific type of configuration, he gave us multiple options. Their pricing was competitive and while it took forever for PGE to get to the wiring/transformer upgrade, Freon's team worked with them patiently to meet our needs. Special thanks to Jessica for regular follow ups with PGE and us. Once PGE scheduled the wiring upgrade (after 3 months), Freon's team was prompt and did a very clean install including all internal wiring and drainage work. They ensured city inspection was scheduled promptly and addressed all city concerns for a quick approval. I have not dealt with a more professional and competent crew in this area in a very long time. Would love to do business with them again.![]()

I usually doubt perfect 5-star ratings, but Freon completely earned theirs. My AC/heater combo unit broke, and every other company told me I needed a total replacement, quoting me between $9k and $12k. Freon came out to inspect it, and later that day, they gave me a quote for just $3,000 to repair it. I signed the contract that night, and they were back to do the work just 5 days later on June 19th. The tech replaced the compressor to get it running, but didn't stop there. He thoroughly tested the system, caught a power issue, and replaced the compressor relay and expansion valve to ensure the unit wouldn't break down again. Outstanding service. I'm finally set for the summer and winter. They deserve every single star!![]()

A single-zone ductless air conditioning installation usually takes one day. Multi-zone systems run one to three days. Hence a ducted replacement that reuses existing ductwork is typically one to two days.
Ductless mini-split installation starts at $1,500. Heat pump systems start at $4,500. New ductwork starts at $690 per register. Larger or multi-zone projects require an in-home assessment for an exact price.
We explain the full price before you approve any residential air conditioning services.
Yes, central air conditioning runs on ducts. You either have them already or we install new ones so the cooled air can reach every room. If your house doesn’t have ducts, they can be added, or a ductless mini-split may be a more practical option.
It depends on your home, existing ductwork, comfort goals, and budget. Central AC can work well in homes with suitable ducts. A ductless AC installation in San Francisco may be a better fit when there’s no ductwork or you want room-by-room control. A heat pump is another option if you want both heating and cooling from one system.
We use a residential load calculation based on factors such as square footage, ceiling height, insulation, window placement, orientation, and local design conditions. Go too big and the cooling system short-cycles and burns out. Too small and it can't keep up. There's one right size, and we find it up front.
Yes. If your home doesn’t have ducts, a ductless mini-split is often the easiest option. The indoor unit connects to the outdoor equipment through a small opening in the wall. So you don’t need to add full ductwork. This works especially well in older San Francisco homes, additions, and converted spaces.
We don’t offer in-house financing. Rebates may be available. Third-party financing may be an option too. We can check current programs when we prepare your estimate.
